Too Early For Christmas?
Is it too early to think about Christmas? Not if you plan to make something for Christmas. Eke! I know some of you are really fast at getting things made, but I’m slow. I need a head start.
So today, I headed over to look at my collection of Christmas fabrics on Spoonflower. While it’s a treat if someone else buys from me, I do this primarily so I can make things with my own designs. Also, it’s a little bit of a thrill knowing only a very few - or more likely, no one else - will have this fabric.
I’ll admit my Christmas selection is a bit paltry.
But I’ve ordered the smaller version of the Christmas Gnomes to make some place mats. And eventually, I’ll be making Christmas pillow cases for the grandchildren. I haven’t decided if I’m going to use the designs I already have or add some. Or I may just buy from another Spoonflower creator who has designs more geared toward children than mine are. In any case, at least pillowcases are straightforward, so I have some time. (I’m putting this out there to hold myself to account.)
Tips for Shopping on Spoonflower
While you’d think this would go without saying, always shop the sales. The fabric is expensive when not on sale (although I appreciate their eco-friendly print-on-demand business model). On sale, it’s the price you’d pay in a quilting store. Even as a designer with 10% discount, I don’t buy my fabric until it’s on sale.
Plan to spend some time looking. There are so many talented designers on the platform, I promise you it can be a never-ending, but relaxing task. I’ve gotten lost in just looking. And I have purchased fabric from other designers.
Many designers make fabric collections. Some are by theme, some are by color, and some are both. My Christmas collection is an example of both. You will find “All Collections” in the list at the left side of your screen.
So I have placemats and pillowcases on my Christmas makes list. What’s on yours?
P.S. If anyone is interested in learning how to put your own designs Spoonflower, let me know. I can help point you in the right direction.
