Plunging Into Textile Art
As of late, I’ve been feeling the urge to create textile art. While it something I’ve never done it before, it combines things that I love: fabric and embellishment. What embellishments? That’s up to the creator. But it can include things such as beads, sequins, buttons, bits of lace, hand quilting, embroidery, and no doubt other things I haven’t considered.
Textile Art Examples
For this post, I went to Pinterest to search out some examples. The search was tough. Lots of beautiful photos, but so many photos with no attribution. I won’t use a photo in my posts if I can’t at least attribute it. Ideally, I prefer to ask permission too. And that’s how I became acquainted with MaryAnn from Joyful Puttering: Collecting Creating Connecting. While her blog is full of many beautiful creations, and I am now an avid reader, it was following textile art piece that led me to her: (click the photos to be taken to the original)

My Preliminary Ideas
I initially chose these fabrics to start with a pieced background. (I’ve already decided to replace the pale green - second from the left - because the print scale is too large. But I may fussy cut some elements from it.)
Here’s where I am with it so far, having hand stitched down some strips on to the neutral paisley. (Please forgive my poor ironing. I always end up ironing more wrinkles in than I do out.)
Where will ago after I finish laying down my fabric strips? No idea, but I will keep you posted!
