And Now, Jewelry

Can an artist really have just one creative outlet? I know that I can’t. And I’ve given up trying. My head says I would hone my craft further if I concentrated on just one, but I haven’t been able to manage it.

Recently, I was in Michaels for an unrelated reason when I walked passed beads that were a bit muted for my usual taste, but they caught my attention anyway. I have a top that deviates from my usual jewel tones being olive green. I have no jewelry to go with it. These beads would be perfect. And in a flash, an idea for a new necklace was born.

I purchased the large ceramic beads, the etched turquoise and rust beads, and the wooden beads. I already had the antique bronze beads and key. (My husband asked if it was the key to his heart, and I told him yes!) I ordered the large lobster claw clasp. I typically use magnetic clasps, but this necklace is too heavy to trust a magnetic clasp. And while I have many small lobster clasps from early jewelry making days before I knew better, they are just too difficult to manipulate.

It’s a simple necklace, but I am pleased with the result nonetheless. And it looks great with the olive top too.

Now I am impatiently awaiting a pair of earrings made by my dear friend, Cat. She had them for sale and I think they will coordinate perfectly.
